15. Rachel McAdams
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 9 Salary rank: 9 Web-hits rank: 9 TV-mentions rank: 15 Press-hits rank: 15 This regular on men’s magazines’ sexiest women lists is appearing in The Lucky Ones, which was shown at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. McAdams plays a private returning from a stint in Iraq who embarks on a U.S. roadtrip with two other vets, intent on returning a fallen soldier’s guitar to his family. The Time-Traveller’s Wife is set for a Christmas season release, to be followed up in 2009 with State of Play, where she teams with Ben Affleck on the film version of the BBC mystery mini-series.
** the next 3 are tied, so they are all listed at 12 (in case you got confused like me D:) **

12. Hayden Christensen
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 14 Web-hits rank: 7 TV-mentions rank: 14 Press-hits rank: 13 The former Darth Vader continues to parlay his mega-exposure from the Star Wars franchise into a thriving movie career, this year continuing in the sci-fi vein with the lead role in Jumper and following it up with a spot in the star-studded New York, I Love You. He’s also been at work on Beast of Bataan, a Second World War courtroom drama in which Christensen portrays a young lawyer helping to defend a suspected Japanese war criminal. Also on the sked is the filming of a bank heist flick, Bone Deep.

12. Sandra Oh
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 12 Web-hits rank: 15 TV-mentions rank: 7 Press-hits rank: 14 A role as a minister of health in the fall thriller Blindness, about a city ravaged by sightlessness, will complement Oh’s return as Dr. Cristina Yang for a fifth season on Grey’s Anatomy. With a crop of young Hollywood A-listers grabbing headlines and paycheques like they’re going out of style, though, Oh just might need another Sideways to ensure she doesn’t sink any lower than her current spot.

12. Ryan Reynolds
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 12 Salary rank: 9 Web-hits rank: 8 TV-mentions rank: 9 Press-hits rank: 11 This year Reynolds flexed his star power in the hit comedy-drama Definitely Maybe, and will follow it up with a trio of flicks, including Adventureland, a comedy revolving around an amusement park, sci-fi superhero prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine, set for a summer ’09 release, and the romantic comedy The Proposal, with genre veteran Sandra Bullock.

11. Michael Cera
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 9 Web-hits rank: 14 TV-mentions rank: 11 Press-hits rank: 10 This year didn’t include two hits like Juno and Superbad in ’07, perhaps affecting the young Brampton, Ont., native’s overall standing. A pair of teenage romps - Extreme Movie and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, will close out the year. The laughs should keep coming when he teams up with Jack Black as a pair of primitive hunter-gatherers in Year One, and with Youth in Revolt, which features a plot that centres on a familiar theme: (you guessed it) Cera’s character’s quest to lose his virginity.

10. William Shatner (lulz)
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 12 Salary rank: 8 Web-hits rank: 6 TV-mentions rank: 6 Press-hits rank: 8
With the same determination with which he fought off Klingons four decades ago, this veteran actor is defeating the forces of age and enjoying a still-thriving career - on both the small and silver screens. On the former, Shatner returns this fall as self-absorbed law firm partner Denny Crane for the final season of Boston Legal. On the latter, he will appear in a cameo role in 2009’s Horrorween, a comedy/horror centered around a haunted house owned by two student dot-com millionaires.

9. Brendan Fraser (really?)
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 5 Web-hits rank: 10 TV-mentions rank: 10 Press-hits rank: 12 Fraser’s year was highlighted by his lead role in the generally well-received summer spectacular Journey to the Center of the Earth, a 3D version of the ageless Jules Verne tale, and in the third installment in The Mummy Series, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Another fantastical effort, Inkheart, is slated to hit theatres early in the new year, while Fraser takes a lesser role as a sergeant in the live action version of the G.I. Joe action figure, scheduled for a summer release.

8. Ryan Gosling
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 6 Web-hits rank: 12 TV-mentions rank: 11 Press-hits rank: 7 The former Best Actor Oscar nominee received a Golden Globe nom this year, for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, for his work in last year's Lars and the Real Girl. His split late last year from fellow Canuck Rachel McAdams, and rumours that they are back together, helped to bolster his notoriety. He’ll soon be seen with Kirsten Dunst in the Manhattan mystery All Good Things. Work on a drama, Blue Valentine, was put on hold in January due to co-star Michelle Williams needing time to cope with the death of former boyfriend Heath Ledger. He is currently on the set of Broken Kingdom, of which he is the executive producer.

6. Pamela Anderson
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 15 Salary rank: 15 Web-hits rank: 1 TV-mentions rank: 1 Press-hits rank: 2 Canada’s own quintessential blonde bombshell wades into the world of reality TV this year with E!’s Pam, Girl on the Loose, which promises to give viewers a “peek inside her life” like they’ve never seen before. Starring as Invisible Girl in the forgettable Superhero Movie earlier this year did little to inflate her career, but her ongoing work for animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ensured Pam’s name was well represented in the press. She’ll be back on movie screens next year in the comedy Hollywood & Wine.

6. Ellen Page
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 14 Salary rank: 13 Web-hits rank: 4 TV-mentions rank: 2 Press-hits rank: 1
This year, Ellen Page followed up her breakthrough 2007 with a role in the feel-good comedy-drama Smart People, playing Dennis Quaid’s intelligent yet haughty daughter in search of herself. She also showed her Canadian colours by appearing in a film adaptation of Margaret Laurence’s iconic novel The Stone Angel. She will be seen in 2009 in the thriller Peacock and in Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It!, playing a rebellious daughter who runs off to join a roller derby league. Only 21 and already high in the Web- and press-hits rankings, don’t be surprised to see that salary spot move upward as well.

5. Seth Rogen
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 7 Web-hits rank: 13 TV-mentions rank: 8 Press-hits rank: 15 Seth Rogen has come a long way since TV show Freaks and Geeks, the critics’ darling with anemic ratings. These days, Rogen is box-office boffo with a hand in two of 2007’s hits: he starred in Knocked Up, lent his writing and acting chops to Superbad, and produced both. His most recent film was Pineapple Express, the stoner comedy he wrote, produced and co-starred in that broke the record for a Wednesday opening with a US$12.5 million opening-day box-office take. Next up from the funnyman is Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno, opening in wide release in October after screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. He’s also signed on to write and star in the Green Hornet movie, due out in 2010.

4. Mike Myers
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 9 Salary rank: 2 Web-hits rank: 11 TV-mentions rank: 5 Press-hits rank: 15 The spectacular flop that was The Love Guru - which managed to both bomb at the box office and offend Hindus - dropped Mike Myers a couple of spots. Still, the Scarborough, Ont., native can always recover his mojo with his more winning characters. Shrek Goes Fourth is due in 2010 and a fourth Austin Powers is rumoured to be in the works. Before that, he’ll appear as a British general alongside Brad Pitt in Inglorious Bastards, a Quentin Tarantino flick due out next June.

3. Keanu Reeves
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 4 Web-hits rank: 3 TV-mentions rank: 11 Press-hits rank: 15 The stoic actor is something of a sci-fi action star: the Matrix trilogy re-anointed him as an A-lister, though 2005’s big-budget film Constantine flopped. His most recent offering, Street Kings, had him playing a grizzled, rulebreaking LAPD cop who’s forced to reconsider his loyalties. Next, he stars opposite Jennifer Connelly in a remake of the 1951 classic The Day the Earth Stood Still, to be released in December.

2. Kiefer Sutherland
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 9 Salary rank: 3 Web-hits rank: 5 TV-mentions rank: 4 Press-hits rank: 6 Kiefer Sutherland is still going strong with 24, which returns with its seventh season in January. In the meantime, he seems to have embraced his law-enforcement tough-guy niche, playing an ex-cop in the 2008 horror flick Mirrors. He’ll also voice a general in the computer-animated Monsters vs. Aliens, to be released in 2009.aaaand drumrolllllllllllll (even though it's super obvi)

1. Jim Carrey
Category Rank out of 15 Box-office/TV-ratings rank: 1 Salary rank: 1 Web-hits rank: 2 TV-mentions rank: 3 Press-hits rank: 5 Dr. Seuss helped Jim Carrey top our list for the third year in a row. Eight years after he stole Christmas as the Grinch, Carrey scored again as the titular elephant in Horton Hears a Who! He’s got more adaptation projects coming up. Yes Man, based on the memoir of a man who says “yes” to everything for a year, is out in December, then it’s back to computer animation as Scrooge and the three ghosts in 2009’s A Christmas Carol.
