Dean's almost completely forgotten what that feeling is like. Being happy. Being happy with Sam.
The younger version of himself finally pushes himself up, still laughing. He's got dirt on his cheek and grass in his hair, but he doesn't seem to mind. "It's gonna take us awhile to get back, squirt," Dean says, ruffles Sam's hair. Sam grins up at him, but he doesn't follow immediately after Dean when he rises. Which...isn't what happened. Sam had actually gotten himself up first, called Dean old. He hadn't sat there like he's sitting now. Dean's up and moving with a smile and a quick, "C'mon bro, you gonna sit there all day?"
Yeah, it looks like Sam is. Sam's just...watching Dean, a softer smile on his face. An older smile. Sam. Not the kid he'd been, but the man he is now. That's him in there

My computer completely died before; bah! *curses her computer* Might not be able to finish it all tonight but I'mma do my best...
---------------------
The urge to suddenly be the other half of that whole again surges through Dean like a tidal wave. He wants that back, too. And Sam obviously wants it because hey, it's his perfect world. Maybe...maybe there's some hope for them yet

If Sam wants his big brother back that badly, the one that so obviously loves him and will do right by him, then fine, he'll get him. Starting with a rescue mission that Sam's kinda gonna be pissed about in all of, oh, two seconds.
Dean grabs Sam up by his armpits and heaves him to his feet. Sam immediately starts fighting as soon as he figures out what Dean's doing, but by then it's too late. Dean keeps him cornered, grabs his face between his hands, and says loudly, "This was real but it's not now. There's a Djinn dead in the corner, Lucifer's out of his cage, angels are all dicks, and you and I, we're angelic condoms for the worst dicks of them all. That's real, Sam."
Sam's shaking his head but the field is disappearing fast. "No, no, stop it, no," Sam yells, pulling at Dean's hands, his clothes, anything in a bid to get him to stop

You made me cry! This was wonderful and sooo sad. Poor Sam. I actually hated Dean for pulling Sam back, even if I also loved that Dean finally got it. And finally, not only knew what he had to do but was willing to do it. I also loved that Sam didn't just answer back 'jerk' because there is so much hurt there and betrayal by Dean (which is never given any credence but it there just as much as Sam's), that it wouldn't fit for Sam to suddenly just forgive him right then. Not when Sam is still wrapped in the memory of what a big brother really does... awww...

Oh, this is so good. Dean conflicted, harsh but also loving and desperate, neither a dick nor all sweetness and light, and Sam just wanting at that moment to give up and not go on facing things, facing reality.

I printed these off and read on the train. Oh, this... THIS was amazing. Such a simple thing to make Sam happy and he wants it so badly that he'd die for it. Just wonderful!
