Uh, it doesn't really fulfill the prompt exactly, so sorry about that. I kinda adored this prompt, so I hope someone else answers it with more rebuilding!Dean. I just couldn't get that part to work for me. This is what came out instead. :)

Sam read a scientific study once, about how the act of smiling could elevate your mood, even if you had no reason to be happy. So Dean says, "C'mon, bitch," and Sam smiles, hoping that if he does, he'll feel the old warmth the term of endearment used to bring. And when Dean jokes, "That's my brother, he's a little slow," to their witness, Sam smiles, even though all he can think about is the truth behind the joke. He was slow enough to let himself be tricked into letting the devil loose.

And when Dean says, "Can it wait, Sam? I gotta call Lisa back. Can you believe Ben just got himself booted from the new team?" Sam smiles, though it's hard as can be to make it look real, when all he feels is guilt that he has Dean here with him, and misery, that he can't bring himself to let Dean go

This is the kind of fic that makes me want to remember your name so I can look for more fics by you. (Though with ohsam and hoodietime and summer_sam_love and spn_summergen and spn_j2_bigbang, etc. I don't know when I'll have time!)

Most of my FList are folks who only post fic. I'd rather keep the more day-to-day stuff separate from LJ. So that would work great for me - with one small caveat. I do share my LJ with family on occasion, so I mostly try not to friend folks who post slash. (I'll read it now and then - but I try to keep it off my Flist.) So if you'll be posting slash, I'll just watch the newsletter for your name.

Oh, I totally understand. And I may possibly post slash in the future? So to be safe, you probably shouldn't friend me. (But we can both know, *secretly* that if circumstances didn't keep us apart, we would SO be friends.) :)
