There were crappy motel rooms and then there were crappy motel rooms. This was one of the latter. No matter how he jiggled or thwacked the temperature controls, the air just would not cut on. The result was a stiflingly humid room Sam couldn’t breathe in. On top of that, the windows didn’t even open. He’d thought about opening the door a crack or even throwing something through the window, just for a chance at some cool, fresh air. But he didn’t want his dad to wake up and find he’d messed up the salt line or caused damage management would make them pay for ( ... )

But that would have been easier to do if he felt better. Every breath out felt hotter than the one before. It was starting to get even harder to draw breath in the stifling room. Setting the book down on the peeling linoleum bathroom floor, Sam got up and turned the water on in the sink. It was just a little trickle, soft enough so that it wouldn’t wake his dad or Dean. Sam ran it cold and shivered as his fingers passed through the water. He cupped his hand there and caught enough for a quick gulp. He slurped up the blessedly cold water, letting it linger against the roof of his mouth and back of his throat for a second before swallowing ( ... )

I loved this! That Sam thought he was cursed, thy he doggedly and stubbornly tried to find the answer by himself. I really enjoyed Dean too, the gentle teasing and the way he examined Sam.

A classic, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Oh my gosh, this is great! I love Sam just insisting it has to be something supernatural, all the sneaking around trying to research his condition, worrying about how mad his dad will be when he finds out, then Dean-the-light-sleeper of course hearing his little brother suffering and coming to his "rescue," (shotgun and blade in hand, of course!)...Then being all big brother and figuring it out right away in his matter-of-fact, practical way...Now I need some chicken soup and warm & fuzzy pjs & S1 SPN fer what ails ya! :) Thank you so much for filling this prompt -- I needed this more than I can say! :)

Awww, Sammy! I love the fact that he's sitting in the bathroom, in the dark, trying to read by the glow of the light switch because he doesn't want to wake up his dad and Dean. And the sound of that zipper in the quiet room, and the sounds of Dean and John's breathing. And Dean asking Sam to open his mouth instead of telling him, so gentle and concerned. Loved this!

Loved this. Protective big brother Dean FTW.

But damn, poor Sam thinking he will get in trouble for getting sick but not for getting cursed.
