When Dean's ringtone warbles from Kevin's phone he spends a few seconds debating whether to answer it, but the ring somehow sounds angry and anxious and impatient - as if it were Dean's voice and not an inhuman electronic tone - and Kevin knows he won't stop calling until he gets an answer, so he grudgingly answers

And Kevin's a little bit afraid of him.

"Sam?" he says.

Sam's eyes turn to him and pierce through him coldly. Kevin's heart pounds with a rush of adrenaline and he thinks, if this were anyone else but Sam, that he would be halfway back down the hill by now. That maybe he should go ahead and start running. Then there's a flash of recognition and Sam seems to retract back into Sam. He frowns, shakes his head, and looks down on himself in dismay

Oh, I love this, and I wonder what Gadreel was up to, walking around in the snow. I like that you gave Kevin his mixture of done with Winchesters and sympathy, and that the sympathy doesn't mean the done with Winchesters won't be back tomorrow. And it's chilling to note that Kevin doesn't run, even though he probably should, when Sam doesn't look like Sam.

Wonderful! I loved how you captured Kevin's initial fear about seeing Sam not as Sam, as well as battling with his own feelings about the Winchesters. Thank you for sharing :)

The fact that Kevin didn't run, in the light of the knowledge of what happened in canon, is a special kind of horror.

This is very art-worthy, if I could draw , I'd have drawn Sam standing in the snow, bare-torsoed, Gadreel looking through his eyes. But alas.

I never got around to reading many of these, and this has been sitting in my inbox, for, what? Months now? But I'm glad I read it because I really do love it bunches. It's so bittersweet, because we know what ends up happening. And Kevin, aw man ... Kevin. indiachick is right; this IS art-worthy. *puts it on my ever-growing list...*

Ooh, that was neat. I can see Gadre-el, from his long, long confinement, simply standing outside in the snow and being bewitched by it. By the way the wind moves the trees, by the way the light shines on the ice crystals. But how it *feels*, because cold, heat, sensation of any kind, that's all new.

Pitiful, in one way, but infuriating in another, because what is he doing to Sam? Look what he's doing to Sam!!

Yaaaassss. I never once hated Gadreel for doing what he did. (I never once hated Dean either, to be honest.)

I really love fics that deal with this time period, with everything about it all. With Dean's conflicted conscience, with Gadreel's hunger for freedom, with Sam's painful fear that once again, there's Something Wrong With Him™. I know a lot of Sam fans were infuriated, and I certainly don't think Show dealt with it in the best way it could've, but hey, that's why we do what we do in fandom!
