It's November 2, an auspicious (if ominous) day for our darling Sam, so to herald his introduction to The Red Stuff, let's revisit an annual tradition. Welcome to the OhSam Triple Play 2016! This year, we're offering a focus on a reoccurring theme in Sam's life: blood"Blood" could be interpreted in many ways. Family don't end with blood. The demon ( Read more... )

I hope this is what you were looking for - a small bit of gen angst set during Sam's senior year. The aluminum walls of the single-wide trailer were soda-can thin, and the lack of privacy had Dean on edge. He was aware of every noise and every movement he made, as he shifted on the skinny mattress. Across the room, the other twin bed stood empty ( ... )

A few minutes later, Dean stepped out of the shadow of their trailer, emerging onto the patchy gravel trail that served as a road between the units. A quick glance up and down the path didn’t reveal Sam, so he picked a random direction and started to jog. His brother came into view around the first curve, his white t-shirt and pajama pants glowing in the street light. He was walking gingerly and that’s when Dean noticed the bare feet ( ... )

Wonderful! I loved how you tied to Sam's insomnia to him leaving for Stanford and his brother. Thank you for sharing :)

Oh, love it! The constriction around them--how the trailer can't contain them (or Sammy's in-more-than-one-way growth spurt); the naturalness and closeness of them, the gravel and the wound and the way they're hemmed and bounded by the ghost of Flagstaff and the (unknown of) Standford. Lovely.

Excellent opening line too ( :!

Thanks for saying that! Read a post on spn_writing about opening lines and I'm working on that.

Okay, that's hilarious - that I'm talking about you to you! It was a great post, and made me think more about balancing impact and restraint. Just wrote a price for the Winchester Angst Club on tumbr that was a practice in restraint for me :)

Thrills me that the post made you think about impact and restraint, because those topics mean a lot to me, writingwise. So glad you found it useful!

"The List" is great--wonderful balance of low-key explication and just letting the impact of Dean's agenda kind of seep in. It's powerful *because* it has restraint. And you don't really hit us directly & hard until the ending, which is a strategy I love. No flailing on the dismount, heh. I absolutely love torturer Dean with a soft-beating heart for only one person (no kidding.) Am a big fan of Winchestery angst. The things I miss, not being on tumblr...
