Dean only asks about Adam once. It's a hesitant question, and Sam doesn't say much in reply, just shrugs and says that he never saw him much.
"He was Michael's property," he lies. "Lucifer didn't care about him."
A part of Sam wonders why he's protecting Adam after all he did - after all he became - but Dean's anger would be for nothing. Besides, it's all years in the past now so Sam should really be over it by now. And he is. Absolutely.
As for why he wakes up in cold sweats during the early hours of the night, seeing cold blue eyes that blink into obsidian, well. That's his problem to deal with.
