Chapter 2 They walked into the room, the guards taking their place at the door. Brown eyes noted all of the politicians standing in there, having conversations about what was about to happen that morning. There was a television crew, camera men already set up at their stations, awaiting the breaking news.
The Master moved to stand beside Rose, and put a bright smile on his face. "Anything I can do? I could make you tea, or is that not American enough?" he asked another man, going to face him. "I could make grits. What are grits, anyway?" the Time Lord asked, making a disgusted face.
The President looked between the blonde and the Master for a moment before turning back to who he thought was the Prime Minister. "If you could just sit," he said with a pointed look towards the table surrounded by black office-style type chairs.
Both he and Rose turned away, and under the Master's breath Rose could hear him. "Misery guts." He then led Rose towards the stairs leading up towards the main window of the carrier. "So what do you think?" he asked her, before leading the blonde back over to the table and pulling out a chair for her.
Rose was not impressed in the least bit by any of this. The Doctor had lied to her, telling her he was the last of the Time Lords, when there was, indeed, this one. Instead of sitting in the chair that the Master had pulled out for her, she sat down in the one that he was going to take, letting him take the former.
"I'm not impressed," the blonde spoke as her shoulders shrugged, watching all the stuffed shirts in the room, leaning forwards to prop an elbow up on the table, placing her head in her hand. "I've seen better. Platform One, end of the world? Year 5.5/Apple/26? So much better than this."
The Master looked almost defeated as he sat in the chair that had been pulled out for Rose as he leaned back, crossed his arms against his chest, and stuck his lower lip out slightly in a pout. Never had he thought in a million years that a blonde would make him wibble - this is why he usually stuck to keeping brunettes as companions. They never made the insane Time Lord show this kind of weakness.
She chanced a glance back at him and wanted to burst out in a fit of laughter when she saw the expression on his features, but kept a straight face.
He wasn't expecting her to see his appearance, and soon after uncrossed his arms.
"Some of my best work. Ministry of Defense. I helped design this place, every detail," the Master said, leaning forward, placing his hands on the table. The urge to tap out the drums that was in his head at the moment was getting out of hand, as he removed his hands from the surface to fix the black tie around his neck.
"Still not impressed, Egotistical," Rose commented.

The Doctor, Jack, and Martha started running from where they were into another part of the ship, their shoes loud against the metal flooring.
"Doc, we don't have time for sightseeing," Jack said when they finally stopped.
The Time Lord raised a hand. "Shh shh shh! I hear it."
Martha and Jack looked around for a moment before turning back to the Doctor.
"Hear what?" the immortal man asked.
"Doctor, my family's on board," Martha said as she stormed past the two men.
"Brilliant," the Doctor commented, a smile appearing on his face, pausing to listen before the expression disappeared. "This way!"
Jack looked to Martha before taking off after the Time Lord, following him down a flight of stairs. Martha trailed after both of them, taking the same stairs, as the three of them ran down a corridor, the keys that were being used as perception filters still hung around their necks, bouncing against their chests.
They stopped in front of a set of doors, and the Doctor flung them open with Martha and Jack flanking him. The TARDIS stood before them, and grins appeared on both the Time Lord's and Martha's faces.
"Oh at last!" the Doctor exclaimed.
"Yes, finally!" Martha said, just as happy to see the beautiful, magnificent ship as the Doctor was.
The trio ran towards it, the lanky Time Lord being the first to arrive at the ship's doors followed by Martha, with Jack close behind them.
"What's the TARDIS doing on the Valiant?" Jack questioned.
Nobody answered his question, as the Doctor burst through the door, entering it first before stopping at the top of the ramp. Martha moved to stand next to the Time Lord, her face in shock. The immortal man's face wasn't any different as he noticed the red color of the interior.
"What the hell's he done?!" the immortal man asked.
"Don't touch it," the Time Lord demanded, moving towards where the console once was.
"I'm not going to," Jack said, still in shock of what had happened to the TARDIS.
Martha stared at the pillar that was in the middle of the room. "What's he done, though? It sounds like it's sick."
"It can't be. No, no, no, no, no. It can't be," the Doctor said as he looked at his ship.
"Doctor, what is it?" Martha asked.
"He's cannibalized the TARDIS."
"Is this what I think it is?" Jack asked, moving closer towards the pillar.
"It's a paradox machine," the Time Lord answered, looking up at it in disbelief.

In the conference room, things were being set for the big news broadcast that would go not only to the United Kingdom, but all over the world.
"Two minutes, everyone," the President of America announced before making his way up the stairs, giving orders as he went.
The Master reached into his suit jacket pocket, and pulled a small white paper sack, staring into it for a moment, before reaching into the bag to pull out an orange Jelly Baby, only to pop it in his mouth in a slightly amused fashion before offering one to Rose.
"Jelly baby?" he asked her, only to be rejected by the blonde.
Rose eyed the bag for a moment, and was half-tempted to reach into the bag, but shook her head.
"No, thank you," she said, turning down his offer.
"Aw," the Master replied. "Pity. They're so good, too," he continued, popping another in his mouth, this time a red cherry flavored one before putting the bag back into his pocket and moved to stretched out his legs under the table, crossing them at the ankle. He felt slightly uncomfortable sitting here with Rose staring at the wall behind a diplomat's head that had just taken his seat across from her. The Master pushed his chair out from the table and took hold of the blonde's, moving it to face where the President was going to be speaking before moving his own chair to sit beside Rose.
"Can't have you staring at the wall when there's going to be a world-wide televised announcement," the insane Time Lord mentioned. "And between us, I think you were making him a bit uncomfortable. Such a beautiful young woman, like you," the Master continued, motioning towards the politician in question, his voiced dropping a bit in volume as he spoke, trying his damnedest to refrain from reaching out and touching Rose's cheek but failing as his finger grazed against her skin.
The blonde jumped out of her chair at the Master's touch and glared at him. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Rose asked, yelling at the Time Lord before smacking him across his face, leaving a red handprint on the insane man's features from where her hand landed. "Who gave you permission to touch me? Well?" she demanded to know.
He was shocked. Never in his nine hundred and three years of living had he been struck by a companion first. The Master was always the one to strike and yell at them first. Sometimes they fought back using his own actions and words against him, sometimes they didn't. The ones that didn't, he ended up abusing until he abandoned them back on Earth.
The drums got louder inside of his head, and soon he rose to his feet and looked at Rose square in the eyes.
"You really didn't want to do that," he said through clenched teeth.
An eyebrow arched on the blonde's features. She was angrier at the Master than at anything in the world at the moment.
"Well you touched me," Rose spat. "You had no right. None at all."
The Master stared into her brown eyes that were filled with hurt and anger for a moment before looking away from them and beckoned to two guards, walking over to them.
"Take her to my wing," he ordered. "Don't touch her. Give her whatever she wants for food. I'll get her when I'm ready for her. In the meantime," the Master paused, chancing a look at her. "Two of you, and I don't care what two, stay outside of whatever room she's at all time."
The guards nodded, and looked at Rose, going over to the blonde, flanking her.
"Walk," one of the UNIT soldiers commanded.
"Where're you taking me?" Rose demanded as she started to walk, not afraid to strike the guard like she did the Master.
"To Saxon's wing," he said. "We're on strict orders not to touch you."
Rose glared back at the Master, who was rubbing his sore cheek before turning back and walking straight ahead out of the room. She didn't feel sorry for him, not in the least bit.
"You better not touch me. Not unless you want to end up like him over there," the blonde said with a snort under her breath. "Mister I'm-So-Egotistical-That-I-Call-Myself-the-Master."

The two UNIT men gave Rose instructions on where to go as they walked beside her, one on either side, daring not to lay one finger on her until they reached the Master's wing.
"Here we are," the taller of the two said. "Bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, dining area," he said with a nod and a finger pointing to each room. "You can go anywhere in this area. If you leave, we'll know." The tone of the soldier's voice told Rose that they weren't kidding.
Although the blonde was curious to know why she was here, she simply nodded before moving to go into the bedroom. She wanted to be alone, just enough to have her breakdown of not being able to see her Doctor.
The other guard shut the door behind her, and Rose ran towards the bed before flopping down on its black and red satin sheets, burying her face in one of the pillows and started to sob, crying her heart out as her mind raced through the day's events. She should have never left home; left two of her best friends behind; risked everything, and for what? This. This was her own personal hell now, and she doubted it was going to get any better. Blonde hair framed her face against the pillow and Rose continued to cry, not realizing how many hours had passed since she started this adventure; not caring that she had missed breakfast and lunch and that it was almost time for dinner.
