Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own any of the Supernatural characters. I also don't have any affiliations with the bands named in the fic, or Rhianna.
Author's Notes: This fic was inspired by both
cafpows and for
ninotsjka_bloom who wanted Dean Winchester pretending to be Rhianna. Also, this is my first Supernatural fic, ever.
References: The guy shouting in the beginning = King for a Day by Greenday and The one that was kind of slowish = Hold On by Good Charlotte
Normally Dean Winchester wasn't one for pop music, especially the dance-pop-rap sounds. He liked to stick to classic rock - Kansas, AC/DC, Styx, and Led Zeppelin, just to name a few. Oh, he had to have his Zeppelin, especially Ramble On and Traveling Riverside Blues. So when Sam hooked up the iPod jack again in the Impala on their way to a job in Georgia, Dean objected to it, threatening to throw it and the iPod out the window.
"Yeah, but it's not like you're listening to your cassettes anyways,” Sam pointed out as they were getting ready to go from a roadside diner. "It's like you said before, Driver chooses the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole. And you're letting me drive, so I get to choose the music."
Dean opened his mouth to protest, but knew that he'd been beat. "Fine, Sammy. But if I hear one song that doesn't have a somewhat decent sound to it, the thing's getting disconnected and you’re getting back into the passenger's seat."
Sam silently agreed to that, and started their drive. Bon Jovi, Linkin Park, and Green Day could be heard in the car's speakers as Dean flipped through the journal and Sam drove. When Disturbia by Rhianna came on though, Sam flipped through it and back to Good Charlotte.
"Wait, what was that?" Dean asked, setting the journal down on his lap.
"The last song? The one that started out with the guy shouting in the beginning?" Sam asked as he looked over at his brother.
Dean shook his head. "The one after that."
"The one that was kind of slowish?"
"The one that you skipped over. What was that?"
"Oh, that one." Sam looked somewhat embarrassed to have Dean find out that he listened to Rhianna. "It's by a girl named Rhianna. The song's called Disturbia."
"Put it on," Dean said. The statement was supposed to be a question, but didn't sound like it. Sam complied, and put the song back on.
As the song played throughout the Impala, Dean came to realize that he kind of liked the song. But when it was all said and done, he looked at his brother. "You like that song?"
"Yeah, kinda," Sam answered with a slight shrug.
The rest of the time passed by until it was well after 11pm and Sam couldn't keep his eyes open any more. Dean suggested that they kept driving, but the brothers were close enough to the site that they could just do it later after a good night's rest. The Impala pulled in at a motel, and the boys checked in and went to their room, with Sam leaving his iPod in the car.
After Sam fell asleep, Dean snuck outside and, after finding Sam's headphones, sat on the hood of the car and kept Disturbia on repeat. With the music blasting in his ears mixed with the sound of his voice as he learned the lyrics and started singing along, the elder brother didn't even hear the sound of wing beats as Castiel appeared.
"Put on your pretty lies, you're in the city of wonder. Ain't gonna play nice, watch out you might just go under. Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered. So if you must falter be wise. Your mind's in disturbia, it's like the darkness is light. Disturbia, am I scaring you tonight? Disturbia, ain't used to what you like. Disturbia, disturbia."
Once the song was finished, Dean looked up to see if anyone was listening. "How much did you hear of that?" he asked, looking over at the angel.
"All of it, Dean. It's a very...fitting song for you," Castiel replied, coming closer to where Dean sat. "Sing it again?"
Dean arched an eyebrow, but did as he was asked. Who was he to argue with an angel of the Lord who wanted to hear him sing Rhianna? After it was over, Dean pulled the headphones down from over his ears, and put the iPod down. Sliding off the car, he went over to Castiel.
"Am I scaring you tonight?" Dean asked.
Castiel looked at him, his head tilted slightly and face deepened with slight confusion. "No."
A slight smirk appeared on the elder brother's face. "Good." And with that word, he pulled the angel close and kissed him.
