i mostly use burn tool throughout the whole thing. key: always use layers. like, whenever you start a new section. that way you cant mess up too bad. and you can still go back and edit it anytime.
1) burn under the eyes.

2) burn enough to make it black. like its torn off.

3) on the edges, blotch some #790000 and set it to soft light.

then erase some with low opacity to blend it with skin.

and you could add more colors and different settings to meet your needs.

5) stamp tool on the whites of the eyes, and go over the irises. smudge tool after that makes it look more realistic too. so dont worry about color peeking through.
