Wow. Just wow. That is crazy, especially at something that I would imagine would be far more liberal than that.
They arrested several students at my school during a school ritual (filling the center arch of a building with snow) because they were harassing the police (who had showed up for what seemed like no reason to us). But this has absolutely no merit for arrest, or for that kind of human damage.
that's not the whole story. As the Q&A thing was drawing to a close this kid threw a fit and "DEMANDED" that his questions be answered, after rushing the microphone (that is why at the beginning of the video there are cops behind him). Kerry said "no let him ask his question", and he proceeded to rant and rave for a good 15 minutes or so after being pulled aside several times and told they had no more time for Q&A.
This drama-queen caused the entire scene on his own, and this limited clip of what happened does not accurately portray what happened. I suggest hunting down the entire 20-25 minute clip on youtube, if it's still there.
The first Amendment protects speech, yes, but that doesn't mean anyone that happens upon a microphone can force a captive audience at a planned event to listen to his maniacal ravings ad nausium. This has nothing to do with free speech, it has to do with a lack of respect and proper conduct.
...But proper conduct and disturbing the peace is really a blanket term that can be used to silence even the most peaceful speakers. Also, ranting and raving does not warrant police brutality (in this case, tazing) or even arrest. The police didn't even try to surmise a decent excuse--they just tried to get him to shut the fuck up as quickly as possible using physical force. He may have been a public nuisance, but the police were out of line. This man was not violent, he was just, like you said, a "drama-queen."
Wow, I honestly did not know the entire story, and I agree it is disrespectful of the kid to act as he did, and he was a drama queen from the start. Once again you are correct with the fact that free speech exists but either way, I didn't think any of that merited him getting tazed. Thanks for telling me the whole story though, it makes sense now why the cops show up out of nowhere.
Finally! I don't know why everyone thinks this video is funny. It's really not. It's not funny to reference "don't taze me bro." The guy was just talking. He was being belligerent, but they could have just removed him from the room, and NOT tazed him.
Worst part: Kerry did nothing and answered his question as he was getting tazed in the room, doi!
