"Everyone's pretty much ok, but .........." *

My knowledge of the details is pretty sketchy at this point but early yesterday evening my brother was stabbed three times by his next door neighbor. No one else was home at the time so he went inside and called 911 himself, the cops came, looked at him and called an ambulance. He's in the hospital now and set to go home (probably) tomorrow. I hope he's OK! How can 3 stab wounds with no injury to the other guy (I'm supposing) be self-defense?

Good luck!

Not a good thing. Not a good thing at all. It would seem to me that some kind of serious legally binding distance should be placed between your brother and the guy, and that some kind of justice should be served, whether criminal or civil.

I know the feeling - I was stabbed during a mugging back around '89 by UIC and I got a deflated lung out of the deal. So I'm glad that your brother got out of it as okay as he did. And given your comment: "Of course he'll start pissing me off almost immediately...", that seems to imply less than cordial relations between the two of you - I hope that things go at least reasonably during your visit there.

Good luck,

I wouldn't say 'less than cordial relations' more, he's my younger brother, so most of the time when I visit, I'm really ready to go home when it's time to go. He's been pretty out of it so far though, poor chicken is in pain. I hope they get that tube out today, that will help immensely.
Glad your lung inflated ok, it must have been scary as hell to be mugged.

...it must have been scary as hell to be mugged.

Actually, it didn't occur to me to be scared at the time. What happened (in essence) was that after having been followed for a while for West Campus to East Campus, my arms were grabbed by two astute young gentlemen, while a third came around me with an eight inch lockback knife and threatened me. Being the primarily manic bipolar that I am, I immediately went into berserker mode, and don't even remember taking hit points. They managed to get me on the ground and relieve me of my possessions (all eight dollars and a book bag) before they ran off. I got up and would have wandered homeward were it not for a police wagon showing up and taking me to UIC hospital, where the injuries were discovered.

It still wasn't my idea of a good time, even if "scared" isn't the exact word I'd use.

re: siblings
I tried to explain to my brother's daughter, once, that even though we were both grown-ups, that I was still his little sister.

Holy crap! What everyone else said.

That's awful! I don't see how the guy can claim self-defense, though!
I'm glad your brother's going to be ok...I hope the guy who stabbed him gets charged, though. How can you stab an unarmed person 3 times and have no consequences?

Wow. Just. . . wow.

Glad to hear that everyone's pretty much okay, but wow. That seems like a fairly clearcut case of not self-defense to me
