Can I get a D'oh! from the congregation?

Went to REI this Thursday for the Geocaching 101 Workshop announced on their website. I brought my laptop along as I wasn't sure how many people would be there or what their interest level would be. So if there were a lot of people there who were very interested or had tried it out before I could show them a couple of dedicated programs for it. ( Read more... )

I just learned I can track email addresses from people who comment to my BLU blog. It was YOU! I love that. I was worried I was the only one reading the other. (a silly but inescapable worry.)

So, very belatedly, thanks. You commented on tipping. I could talk to you forever about it. Ever waited tables?

Yup. Not in a swanky Manhattan steak joint but at Buffalo Wild Wings where people can order at the counter and have their food brought to them OR have table service.
You can just imagine the possibilities for fun with that scenario.
The basics were the same though and we had everything from the kids trying to make off with a 'book' to people trying to impress their friends and over-tipping.
It was my experience that I did better when a large party paid on seperate checks, did you find that to be true also?
It sounds like your work is a big 'expense account' place, we only had contractors coming in at the end of the day for our expense accounts.
Just assumed that since your FList is so long you weren't reading me, nice to know you are!

Separate checks can either be a huge boost or a HUGE drag, when everyone thinks someone else is taking care of the tip.

Best is the bachelor parties. They tip well, and usually in cash.

CEOs tip well too, but I find that often in groups, the 'foreigner' is often the one that picks up the tab - and in any country other than ours, tippng isn't 'done,' or at least not to the extent it's done here.

And YES, I read you. I still don't know what geocaching is, but I read along anyway and enjoy reading your adventures.
