Here is his Wiki article, although it's horribly pathetic.
This one is for Crisis Core and it tells his history much better.
What your character can offer: Zack is part of the SOLDIER program, so he's infused with Jenova cells and Mako to enhance his strength, speed and agility. He's well trained with the sword and is a very, very good soldier and fighter.
Physical attributes aside, Zack is a mentally and emotionally strong person; he's had a lot of hardships in his life, but manages to bulldoze his way through any angst and depression to come out smiling in the end. That's not to say that he doesn't ever get upset. Zack is a very open individual, and doesn't hesitate to show when he's angry, upset, sad or joyful. He's honest to a fault, and will usually believe the best in someone until they prove otherwise. He's optimistic, hopeful and always does his best to look on the bright side of any situation. He's determined and trustworthy, not to mention incredibly loyal and protective of his friends and family, so it's probably a good thing for everyone else that Zack makes friends easily. All in all, Zack will probably do whatever he can to keep spirits up and give everyone else hope, but still try to keep things realistic enough so that he doesn't give anyone false hope.
What items will they be bringing with them? A comatose chocobo Zack has Angeal's Buster Sword and his materia on him (which I'm assuming he either won't have, or it won't work), but other than that he doesn't have anything besides the clothes on his back. He's pretty down and out at the moment.

The dreams weren’t infrequent, so a hazy recollection of metal lab tables and voices was nothing new. The waking up in the middle of nowhere, with Cloud nowhere to be found; now that was worrisome. After nearly a year of hauling the blonde around, Zack had grown accustomed to waking up and seeing him first thing. However, he was neither with Cloud, nor was he where he remembered dropping off for the night. Taking a calming breath, Zack quickly climbed to his feet and did a brief inventory check.
Buster sword still there, but it was glaringly obvious that it was all he had to his name at the moment. His materia, even those hi-potions he’d lifted from that soldier a few days ago were missing, not to mention the meager supplies he’d managed to scrounge together. And Cloud was absolutely nowhere to be found. Panic crawled up from his gut and knotted his shoulders, which Zack squared as he turned on his heel, eyes sharp as he looked around. “Hey, Spike?” he called, hoping that Cloud had finally regained consciousness and wandered off. If they’d been caught, they wouldn’t have snatched Cloud and left Zack alive, would they? Certainly not.
Setting his jaw, Zack swept the area with another glance. A wasteland, but that was nothing new. They’d been getting close to Midgar, and as was per usual once one set foot in the land surrounding Midgar, trees and other forms of life that weren’t actively trying to tear your face off were few and far between. Although sitting in the open wasn’t a good idea, Zack was reluctant to make himself scarce. There weren’t many areas to hide, and among them there wasn’t a single strand of blonde hair to be found. So either Cloud had wandered off…or something worse had happened. Zack didn’t want to think about it, and dragged a hand through his hair. “Hang on Aerith, Spike…I’m coming,” he murmured before picking a direction and starting towards it.
First-Person Sample:
Hm...so I'm supposed to use this thing kind of like email for everyone, huh? Crappy quality; I'm starting to appreciate the standard phones they handed out back in Shinra now.
Anyways, point is, has anyone seen a fluffy-headed blonde guy? Goes by the name of Cloud, could be really, really quiet, sort of distant? I'm looking after him, and that's a really hard thing to do when he's not around, y'know. If anyone sees him, could you tell him that his buddy's looking for him? He'll know who you're talking about. If he um...understands you.
Besides that, can anyone tell me how far I am from Midgar? I'm really, really late for a date with my girlfriend, and while she's the saintly type I have a feeling that I'll catch it if I laze around in some random ghost town.
