[The journal is open and actively sketching the deep blue sky. Every few minutes, animated inky clouds drift across the page. Then there is a sudden close up of a paw as it flings out and hits the page, leaving behind a smeary red pawprint-]

Never one to let others (even wee beasties) suffer if she can help it, Rao hurries toward the creature, slowing down as she nears it - primarily to not scare the poor thing, but also out of shock. She's never seen a fox this big in her life!]

Poor dear, you must have gotten into one heck of a fight.....have you been out in the sun all this time?
[Rao reaches out her hand. She knows from long experience that even strays can't resist a good petting.....although she's forgetting that this is a giant fox, not a hungry kitten.]

In a world that presents impossibilities, such would be... acceptable, if not expected. Still fragments and so-called memory linger.

[There is a significant pause before words appear, again.]
Light and dark linger together, in divide, on graves as well as anywhere. Waste not your blood onto page, if healing is your intention. And linger, if health be of your mind.

Tsk, tsk...not so wily after all, hm, madam fox?
[Waka circles around her heaving body, inspecting the damage dealt by the mother lupine goddess. He frowns a little. Something inside him was nagging. His compassionate side to help the poor beast was waging war on his rationality, insisting he rend the demon fox's head from her shoulders now. The beast was in essence a plague unto Ryoshima. Still, that was not the reason he wanted so badly to slay the beast now. No...there was another, deeper, more personal reason.

A low, weak growling begins in her chest. Her single red eye absolutely blazes with rage and hatred. But, if Waka would care to look, he might see a shred of fear - not of death, but what death would bring: the shattering of her lifelong self-delusion of perfection. A fear only death, not defeat, could realize. Regardless, there's no mistaking the complete and utter lack of remorse in that one demonic pupil. Silently, she summons her remaining strength, ready to attack if he should stray within her immediate range.]

[Waka spits, hand aching to reach for his sword, more so than ever when he sees the...what was it--satisfaction?--burning in that one eye. His teeth clench together behind pursed lips and, quick as only the Tao Master can be, he lunges forward and drives his blade into the demon fox's shoulder, then out again. Waka jumps back before the monster could truly grasp what had happened, breathing heavily.
...That was enough. He couldn't kill it. Still, that was enough. His hand shakes and he snarls himself, plunging his beautiful sword into the water, wiping clean the blood.]
Fox of nine tails... Know this. And know it well. I will allow you to live - for now. But...if you so much as bat that single eye of yours towards an innocent again, I will reign down a fury upon you that neither heaven nor earth has ever seen.
