Reminds me of translation problems between Vietnamese [VTN] and English. Although I may know know the equivalent words in both languages, the usage doesn't always work because the cultural meanings often do not transfer well. And that's when I'm just trying to communicate normally (no puns, no idiomatic expressions or colloquialisms). For instance, the VTN equivalent of the ENG verb "to understand" also implies (in VTN) "to approve" and "to endorse". This used to cause all sorts of confusions, frustrations and, well, lack of understanding (ironic much?) between me and my parents

Hahaha... yeah, seriously. Reminds me of a conversation with my grandfather. I had red marks on my temples because old metal glasses frame + heat + sweat = red marks; and he saw it.

It also seems to me quite a lot of older generations can't put themselves in another person's shoes, or obtain point of views to both side of the argument. It's always one of them is right, the other must be wrong. And if they switch sides, they ditch their previous perceptions completely. It's as if what has been seen cannot be unseen... permanently. I hate it. It's a communication and logic gap.
