I don't see why people aren't asking you in for more interviews and giving out job offers. You have a whole bunch of publications (if my Pubmed search is accurate). Are you only looking in Washington State and Oregon?
It is too bad you want to stay in the small college venue. I was really surprised at the number of x-ray crystallographer openings that I saw when I looked in September. Unfortunately, I can't apply yet. I was really bummed since UW-Madison had an opening.
Which job are you applying for in Philadelphia? I know the Wistar Institute is searching and so is U. of Penn.
Yeah, the problem with the top-tier research jobs is that I really don't have a) the publication record and b) the desire to be competitive. Whereas I think I'm a pretty good teacher and I enjoy that much more.
I applied to Swarthmore College (another small college!) in Philly.
Not to keep your hopes up, but I've notice that "by the end of the week" in the context of job interviews often means "whenever the hell we get around to it," especially when the job doesn't need to be filled right away.
But then what the hell do I know? I got most of my adult jobs by temping.
Good luck with the travel. We've had a wonderful time on three different trips so far (OR to NC, and twice to Chicago) and a fourth coming up to PA. If you want any baby-travel advice, we'd love to pass on our experiences :)
