If the bank is Bank of America/Fleet/Shawmut/WhateverTheFuckTheyAreCalledThisWeek, my advice is to cancel your account and set up an account with a local bank or credit union.
I'll have to tell you the story sometime of the day that I closed my Fleet account. It was a proud day in my history ;-P~
It was Eastern Bank, which is a fairly small chain.
I hated Fleet. I have considered giving Bank of America a shot... thinking that despite having taken Fleet over, it should be nothing like Fleet. Right? Right?
But yes, I'm highly considering switching banks. To where, I don't know yet.
don't let your anger guide you! i know eastern has its quirks, but it's a nice little bank and it's also one of the few banks that isn't publically traded, which means it wont get bought out and become CONGLOMONEY INC LLP anytime soon. sorry. i come to you as a leftie and as a former, still loyal EB boy
Well, Gloria and I have our accounts at RTN Credit Union as I am an employee of the City of Waltham. Does your employer have a Credit Union that you could join?
If not, I have heard good things about Watertown Savings Bank.
As for Bank of America, yes they can be as bad as Fleet. It's essentially the same bank with the same policies. They simply repainted their branches and reprinted their literature. Any bank that charges you a monthly fee so that they can hold *your* money has something seriously f'ing wrong with it.
first of all, jenny paiva sucks. she is the worst employee ever. we had an archive of jokes and anecdotes about how terrible she was as an employee.
second of all, if you don't want to wait you might try going to an assistant manager. see if karen flint is still working there. she especially hates paiva. if not, usually the assistant branch managers have a lot more to prove and take complaints just as seriously.
Why don't they have some kind of temporary card you can use?
I remember when I was at the evil empire (Fleet), they were able to issue me a temp card until my real card came in. It was only an ATM card (no visa logo) but I was able to do regular banking at the machines, at least.
Eastern Bank has a very decent rep -- if this is the only issue you've run into, I'd suggest hanging around. Don't get into the big banks. Just ends up costing you more.
Any of the savings banks/credit unions are good as well. They're all on SUM networks so you don't pay ATM fees and you can do usual banking (deposits, etc) from any of their ATM's. Moving to a credit union from Baybank/Bank of Boston/Fleet/Bank of America was the best thing i did.

God help her if I find out they actually do.
I'll so get her fired.
