ashes to ashes speculation and crack theories.
This is all pure speculations, I know no spoilers. and there is little to no mention of specific events from previous episodes.
Gene did not kill Sam. that much I know. and I think Alex knows it too.
but
Gene is covering something. he could feel guilty over Sam’s death. he could feel it his fault, that he wasn’t there for Sam when he needed him or something like that. maybe what they were doing wasn’t exactly lawful and it needed to be covered up. Theory 1 is that the cover-up is guilt-related.
Theory 2 is that Sam isn’t really dead. he was being hunted by other time-travelers and had to run away. Gene helped him and Annie run away. I’m not entirely sure I believe this one. I just read it on tv tropes.
3 -“Thordy” is not Sam Tyler. but he coul believe he is. like Jackson Lake in The Next Doctor. maybe he time-traveled too and the lines got muddled and he got some of Sam’s memories or something.
4- The whole universe revolves around Gene Hunt and there’s a reason for that. maybe he created it all. maybe he’s the original time-traveler and everyone else is visiting his reality. Maybe he’s an alien running an experiment. Maybe’s he’s Jesus. or some other deity. maybe he’s consciously controlling the whole thing. maybe he is in a coma somewhere and forgot this wasn’t real.or he is sam tyler. or the Doctor. or he and jim are guardians of the river styx(these last three I read on twitter)
Nevertheless, I believe Gene Hunt is a good guy, an honest copper.
5 -Jim Keats- who is he? good,bad, dangerous? is he a grim reaper? an angel of death? the devil? a demon? why does he want to bring gene down? the yang to gene’s ying? the black guardian?
6-ŧhe universe- is it a shared coma dream? or maybe they’re all in an asylum? in purgatory? the matrix? virtual reality? maybe graham stole the idea from LOM US. was it created by one person or is it being continually…changed by the inhabitants imagination…or something like that.the people shape the place.
at the end of LOM, Sam had to kill his friends to escape,kill himself to come back. (which is a common trope it seems in Buffy,when she thinks her world is a hallucination in ‘Normal Again’, she has to kill her friends to escape as well. friends ground you,keep you sane. you sever all connections to do something insane)
What does Alex have to do to come back? does she want to? I think now it is bigger than that, than about her coming home. there are more people involved. there seems to be something bigger going on, something she doesn’t understand yet she is stuck in the middle.
7- the dead copper with the 6620 number. so far my theory is that he is someone that Gene knew when he was young,maybe at the academy. Gene was young and inexperienced and he made a mistake and this guy died because of it. so he keeps the photo so he’ll always remember. maybe that roll of film will have photos of them both , of a case they worked together or some other possibly incriminating evidence.
what/who else could he be?
There’s a theory going around that he is gene, that gene is dead but his subsconscious lives on,creating this world and attracting people to it. and keats wants him to let go, move on. it is an interesting theory.
I suppose it could be young!gene.possibly. but why keep a photo of himself so hidden? and why does alex see him with half a face? even if he is dead, how would alex know?
