December 24-In front of Okonomiyaki shop-Late Afternoon

May 01, 2009 21:50

It was Christmas Eve and Okita thought it would be nice to give her sisters a nice treat. She remembered how much they loved the food at the Okonomiyaki shop.  Every since the time she met Amanda, she had not been here back since, which was a shame because the food was very delicious. As she walked, she passed a familiar restaurant that sent ( Read more... )

The shop was extremely busy that night, it seemed that Christmas was more of a couple holiday and because of that there were tons of people here in the shop. Most food places were like this though and the business was good. Haitani was helping his mother by force this day but as she pointed out he had no plans and his father wasn't celebrating either. No here he was waiting on people.

As Okita and the twins entered, Haitani who had just delivered drinks to a nearby table approached them. "Just three?" he asked.

The energy of the crowd was rubbing off on the twins as they looked around excitedly. Most five year old would be afraid of so many people with so much noise in a closed area, but not the twins. They looked around excitedly, observing the waiters as they took orders, served drinks and cooked on the grill.

When Haitani approached them, Okita was surprised to see him there. She knew it was busy but it was after all a holiday. Maybe he was here to help his family and they were planning on celebrating later.

Holding a tight grip on the twins, she nodded. "Yes, just three."

Haitani looked around for a table that was just cleared and headed them towards it. His nervousness was pretty bad today as he was terrified to screwing up, or worse something his mother might do. Her lover was here today and the last thing Haitani wanted to happen was for another school mate to find out his mother was a lesbian. It was always awkward.

"Right here," he said as he directed them to the table.

Okita and the twins followed. Once he directed them to their tables, Varu took a seat first sliding in with Okita in the middle and Varuna sitting at the end.

Varu started banging on the table while Varuna tried to look under the table taking a great admiration for her boots once again.

Okita looked up at Haitani waiting for a menu.

Neha and her family came into the shop. Her mother and grandmother wore traditional saris in a warmer fabric than what they'd first arrived in, but they were both grateful for the warmth of the shop.

"Neha, are you sure you want to try this shop?" her father asked, looking around. They'd never tried Okonomiyaki before and they weren't sure if it would be good or not.

"I'd like to try something new, Pitaa....and I've heard around town when I was shopping that this place is good." Neha replied, speaking the same Hindi as her father and with obvious respect.

Her whole family waited to be shown to a table, talking softly in Hindi. Neha was aware of the stares they were receiving, mostly due to her mother and grandmother's clothes, but she didn't mind. She figured it was a way to make new friends, and she was always open to meeting new people.

Moving away from Okita's table Haitani approached the family. "Right this way." he gestured as put them at a table near Okita's in his section. He placed the menus on the table, "I will bring you guys a pitcher of water before coming back to take orders, If you need any help just call." Haitani bowed before running back to get two pitchers of water

Neha nodded and translated for her grandmother, who wasn't yet able to understand quickly spoken Japanese, though she was doing well for a woman who had only just learned the language recently. She looked down at the menu and started translating that as well, telling her parents and grandmother what was available. She'd picked up the language the fastest of her whole family and was the only one who's reading skills were up to being able to see the whole menu.

Haitani made his way back to the table next to Okita after getting them settled. "Ready to order?" he asked happily.

((Sorry for long delay - family vacation))
