While chatting with merrycalliope about sketchbooks I got interested in how we view them.

I find that in a sketchbook that is almost full, I feel weighed down by the previous drawings and ideas, so I usually tear the last few pages out and draw on them loose. I'm not sure why I feel like that. A fresh, new sketchbook feels like an empty room to me. A filled sketchbook feels cramped, like a room so filled with furniture one can barely move. It may be good furniture, but it's still cramped.
