Well the Wi is more of the family game console. There is more int he way of real programs for helping you to keep fit with the motion sensitive control that is has. I have great respect for Nintendo for sticking with the family game format through the years. I use to distribute arcade games in the eighties and ninties so I have some experience with this. While eveyone else was making "games of death" Nintendo had games that challenged the mind along with the action. Dad gum it ppl are still playing Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong...lol!
So, don't feel so guilty on this one.
However, if you want to be a SWAT wanabee or soldier of fortune you buy an Xbox 360 and a copy of HALO.

They just call 'em nunchuks because they correct to the wii remote with a cord. The nunchuck is a controller attachment that is used in many games - it's got an analog stick and two buttons.

ahh, ok. Thanks for that info.

I understand that the PS3 has better graphics but is a lot more expensive. I also compared the games and the PS3 has a lot more adult games, and a lot fewer kid friendly games, so we'll go with the Wii.

They wanted a Nintendo DS, but something that connects to the TV seems better. if they're bored somewhere out, they can bring a book :D

my roommate just ordered one from barnes and noble (no bundle or package) for 250.

you could also try newegg.com It has a relatively cheap bundled version with mario cart and fit or something like that.

i know not what i speak... just spouting advice of others.

a friend can get me one from Walmart in the US, and it's a good price, but in $US. There's a big gap in value now *shakes fist at Chinese and japanese for buying up US securities* so it would be a lot more in CAN$.

My Dad's gift certificate is in US$. I can get a plain-ish Wii for $333 via an Amazon seller and use that gift certificate, so I think I'll do that.

Not sure how else we'd spend $500 there, lol. There's some kind of gross science kit available there that I can't get here so that will add it up too. I have a kid interested in science stuff as long as it gooey.
