I've never been big on the Avengers, and it looks like they've chosen some of the less interesting characters to feature in the film. How you can pass up the Scarlet Witch for that boys' clubs is beyond me. But I guess I should give it a chance :)
Well, I've never been big on comic books at all, so I can't really comment on that. I do like a good comic book movie though, and I'm very interested to see what Joss Whedon would do with a humongous budget. I think the idea is to have only characters in the movie that have already been established in their own films (Iron Man, Hulk, and then Thor and Captain America are coming out in the next year or two). So I suspect that Scarlet Witch isn't included because it's not well known enough to be its own movie, but who knows. I think it's kinda an interesting thing to do with a movie series even it wasn't from a comic. It has the potential to completely fall on its ass though, so we'll see.
With an established franchise, how much freedom will he have to kill off a beloved character? Because if not, how Whedonesque can it be? I know this sounds awfully snarky (says someone who learned to knit in order to have a copy of Jayne Cobb's cunning hat), but look at his track record.
Well, I think the Whedonesque-ness of something means a lot more than beloved characters dying occasionally. It's not like the only reason I like a lot of his work is because characters die. Anyway, it's certainly true though that on this kind of massive project, he'll probably have a lot less creative control than on his other stuff. But, almost for that reason as much as any, I'm curious to see what he can do under those constraints.
