I spent a big chunk of Friday meandering through different Fischer stories. The BBC has a great photo whatchacallit? Memorial? Entry? It shows him as a teenager through his glory days. I thought it very interesting that the Russian sites preferred to show him toward the end of his life, beard and eyes wild. Spassky had some nice things to say about him. My favorite quote, though, was someone saying he would be challenging the devil to a game of chess before entering hell.
From several of those memorials, it sounds like Fischer was already cracking as a teen. I think now they'd label him as autistic, a term I never saw related to him.
No offense taken. I've never thought of you as remotely geeky. As for me, I'm a blend of outdoors and geek. Kind of the middle of where I was when I was a child and where I was late teens through late-twenties.
