W00t! "Leningrad" is online at
Fantasy Magazine.
I suspect that I should post a Christmas/New Year's update, but I'm still recovering from all the driving and visiting and have to drag myself to work tomorrow. In other words, maybe later this week. Or maybe not.
Hope everyone's doing all right.

You're quite welcome!
I studied the Russian language for three years, which included a semester in Moscow. This was more than ten years ago, so my Russian is more than a bit rusty, although I do occasionally parse through Russian sentences online. Very slowly. Certainly not at the rate that I'd need for digging through academic and biographic works in Russian.
So, the short answer: English sources. Thankfully, there are many, but I'm sure I'm missing out on quite a bit of interesting material. Some historical figures do not have the amount of material devoted to them that should be expected (Ivan Groznii) and some entirely too much (Nicholas II), but I suppose that has to do with the market, perceived or real.
I'm glad you enjoy the Shostakovich icon. I made that a long time ago, so I'm not sure I deliberately pilfered "amused to death" from Waters or if it just seemed to fit at the time.
