Once again I question my mental state

So I'm semi-seriously (ok more like seriously-seriously) considering joining the National Guard. I went with a friend to their presentation on career day a few weeks back and left thinking "hmm this might be something I could do" I took the ASVAB on Wednesday and scored a 92! I think my recruiter almost wet himself. (I know I did ( Read more... )

A 6:30 class will be good practice for when you're in boot camp and have to get up insanely early every day.

If you are going to do boot camp, your fitness course makes perfect sense.
When I was in BAS
IC training in the Army we slept in our PT uniforms so that when we woke up we just made our bunks, brushed our teeth and were out the door.
35 is the cut off date for joining the Army, I am assuming it is the same for the Guards. You don't have to make a career out of it. Just do your first tour and see how you like it. If it is too bad you can even get out for failure to adjust.Just rember that at the end of BASIC Training you will do a 12 mile hike, with a fully packed backpack and utility belt, to your BIVWAC (not the right word, but it has been almost 20 years) site to camp.
Which reminds me, I would start practicing doing push ups with a heavy belt on. I was really good at doing pushups, but not with my utility belt on.

My recruiter just checked and he said the age limit is 42. If it really is 35 I have to hurry the heck up and get enlisted by February. Right now I can't do push ups for crap but I'm working on it. In the not too distant past (this last summer) I did a LOT of hiking, including an 8 miler that climbs about 1500 feet (if I remember correctly)but never with much of a pack so I guess I need to start working on that too.

If you need help with push ups and want to do something super easy that you can do anywhere. take a large rubber band, hold it in both hands in front of you and streatch it as far as you can.

That's an awesome idea. I can do that anywhere.
