Super Stars of the Super Bowls

Feb 01, 2006 16:43

I'm not a huge football fan, but I like the sport.  So when Super Bowl time rolls around, like millions of other people, I watch.  Honestly, I watch the commercials more than the game, but nevertheless I do watch the game.  This year, however, is different.  It's not every day that the Super Bowl comes to my town.

you had me until you gave props to the people mover. Otherwise, nice post. I am not a huge fan of the casino's, but I get your point.

Well, I wasn't actually giving props to it, though I admit to trying to put a positive spin on Coleman's Train.

I'm going to rewrite...

Yep, I just did. Well, I should say I kept forgetting to check that e-mail for the past few days. Sorry! :)

And yeah, Pittsburgh is our adopted team! Get on the Bus!

I love Greektown but it's been years since I've been there....

Actually listening to a story on NPR right now, they're talking about all the extra homeless shelters that have sprung up in Detroit to "hide" the homeless until after the Super Bowl. But I have to agree with you, Detroit is a much nicer place than it used to be. It's probably going to be a while before it loses the whole stigma, though.

Yeah, but this can go a long way in finally removing that stigma. We're actually going down this weekend to hang out. The last time I could say I hung out in Detroit, it had something to do with the event shown in my icon. :)

It would be nice to say that after the Super Bowl, much of this will still exist, especially things like the homeless shelters. Yes, it would be great to still have a vibrant downtown after all this, and that being the case, ideally the wealth spreads to keep the city in a good place socially. I think it has a better chance now than ever before, but time will tell.

I find it amusing you are using a hockey icon while talking about football. LOL

Well, it's more about Detroit that I'm talking about than I am the actual game. And as far as I'm concerned, nothing says Detroit like Stevie Y.
