Being down in Boofoo IL my school addresses rural poverty. We're looked at as the biggest city that offers social services down here. The sad thing about rural social service is the fiscal providers never want to admit how much it costs to provide for people in rural areas simply because of the cost of gas to get to them, or for them to get to us. Thats why a lot of good programs for people in rural areas can't last.

something that has never left me from my time in guatemala is that the people in poverty don't complain. they pick through trash to find things to recycle and get mere pennies for, but they don't complain. the garbage dump actually has a growing village with families who are often times more content than we are. They live in filth and disease. but don't cover your nose and mouth because they don't know it smells. They don't know what the yuppies in the US have... and they don't care. they are more blessed than we are. we will never trust God the way these people can. so, you're right, they surely don't need our help. we need theirs.
