My father is at Suburban Hospital, having broken his hip sometime this afternoon. He's not clear how long he lay on the floor waiting for Mom to come home after he fell, but he WAS lying on a nice Persian rug inside a heated house - he's alone most of the day (Mom still works) and putters about, he could have easily waited on the slate floor in ( Read more... )

Thank you. His surgery went well and he's going home tomorrow. Sure not what it used to be - when I was a schoolgirl someone's Granny would break her hip and would certainly be dead within 6 months, often sooner. We are hopeful he will recover from this incident completely.

I hate it when things like that happen. My uncle had a big stroke and my sister found him a couple days later on the floor. This was years ago.

Thank you. He fell getting up to get his lunch yesterday, he didn't actually get anything to eat until this afternoon, over 24 hours later! First he was stuck on the (warm, soft) floor waiting for Mom, then they kept saying he couldn't eat pending surgery. When he came out of recovery, it was past lunch time. Mom went out to the local Honey Baked Ham store and brought him back a sandwich.

His surgery went very well, he should go home tomorrow and recover fully!
