I knew someone who was raped at 5 by her 10-12 year old brother and his friend. Her same-age-as-her friend was raped by the two at the same time. Friend was the little sister of the 2nd rapist.
Nobody ever told. My guess is this would never have made the news if it hadn't been for cell phones. She said/they said--and there are more of them and, gosh, they all have the same story.
If she'd talked, she would have been at risk of prosecution for statutory rape of those of the boys who were underage

Wait a minute, that's backwards! Innocent until proven guilty!
Whoa.
I didn't say you should believe the allegation. I said you shouldn't be mad about the person who is saying, "I was there. Joe Blow did such and so to me." -- you shouldn't be mad at that person for not being able to prove it.
That's actually the way defamation law works. You can't be (successfully) sued for defamation if you say somebody committed a crime against you--unless they can prove you're lying

Look at people's attitude towards the chick who said Kobe Bryant raped her.
She can't prove it, she's nutty and slutty, and her behavior going up to his room was far from perfect.
We do not have proof she's lying.
But look how many people piled on to criticize her for saying he raped her when she can't prove it.
Look how many people think if you absolutely refuse to criticize or blame or get mad at her in any way---and if you say they damned well shouldn't, either---think you're effectively anti-male, the accusation is the conviction, convicting Kobe Bryant of rape without a trial and with no proof!
Then look how many people tell you you're rare if you do manage to convince them that you have no opinion but are absolutely refusing to get at all mad at her, or at all critical of her, until or unless she is proved, absolutely proved to have lied
( ... )
Summary: Society says that most people can't or won't learn to suspend judgment. They need to learn--because it's the only way to stop this rape-friendly attitude.
Yes, some people lie. The number of victims who keep their mouths shut out of fear is much, much higher than the number of people who lie about having been hurt sexually. The only way to make it so non-survivors learn the real incidence of sexual violence is to make it safe for victims who can't prove a thing to speak up anyway--openly and publicly.
Learning to suspend judgment is the price of that.
Until we learn, yes, we will have communities that care less about a "slutty" 11 year old rape victim than they care about the gaggle of males who raped her.
I hear you. This whole thing has me more than a little pissed off. Especially the media calling it "alleged". Alleged my ass the little bastards recorded it on video and photographs.
