I suspect this is going to be a crash-bang year, from the way these weeks are already going by. I'm anticipating an annual visit to the Bay Area for early April, and it's already time to start making the arrangements. And what have I got to show for February? Doesn't feel like very much at all ( Read more... )

"Crash-bang" year....oh yes it is. I have been struggling to keep up with it. Should probably say that I am not doing a very good job at it either. I am amazed at how fast time goes when I have fewer years to enjoy it. I often wonder how young ones in their ninetys and above must feel if I feel this way in my late 50's.

You have yourself a great weekend!

Hey, Mom, good to hear from you! I have wondered if the speedup phenomenon is really related so much to aging as it is commonly thought, since I hear it so much from younger folks these days, too. Just like so many other supposed 'aging deficits' (memory dysfunctions, etc.). Consider that life, itself, has been changing so crazily over recent decades . . . we may be bearing the brunt of something more properly (to be) known as HTS: High Technology Syndrome.

Sit tight. You may actually see it so labelled, before too much longer. Though it hardly answers the question you raise.

I agree. You are right on both counts. Either way, though, I think there's a positive value in it, as on the one hand it reclaims a linkage that had long since begun to fade; while on the other hand, it validates the legitimacy of that very same process, highlighting your own degree of change (presuming that has been positive, which may not always be the case).

you scare me; I already see my growing up time and teen time way sweeter and way more innocent than it is now (and I miss it terribly already), so I dread to imagine how it'll make me feel in the future...

Well, I think you have a good grasp of time's flow and how it changes us. All I was trying to say, Anya, is to live your today in the fullest possible way . . . which I think you are doing, to a degree and excellence almost beyond the normal capability. You won't be regretting nearly as much as many do, because you are so clear on it.

And I enjoy your accounts of that. :)
