As people may or may not have noticed, the number of stories and/or artwork has reduced quite considerably over the last six promptathons. We've gone from twenty-six right down to six. Ditto the number of prompts being submitted has also reduced - the latter isn't of any real concern as we have still had plenty. However, the former is of some concern to me and has led me to wonder if there is still interest in this community, does it still have a place? Does it still fulfil a need?
Compiling the prompt list is not a five minute task and it is also a very concentrated task. It is not a simple case of copy & pasting the prompts and posting - it's far more involved than that. It takes a minimum of an hour (and that's if we only get the number of prompts we had last time) and has taken me a couple of hours (if not more) on quite a few occasions. And it's not just compiling the prompt list that takes times, it's also posting the call for prompts, the reminders as well as compiling and posting the round-up posts.
Now I don't mind investing that amount of work if the interest is still there and if people still want the community to continue. I don't mind at all - I actually enjoy doing it *g* I know that I could make it easier on myself and rather than have a separate cut for each fandom, I could simply put all the prompts under one cut and so people would have to look at the whole list rather than just clicking on the link for their particular fandom. That would cut out quite a lot of work for me, but I don't really see it as being that user friendly.
I know I haven't actually taken part myself the last couple of times due to being involved in writing other things and personally I don't want to see the promptathons end and the community die; I enjoy it. However, a moderator doesn't run a community for her own benefit *g* Thus, if the interest isn't there there is no point continuing to run this.
What I need to know from members/watchers of this comm (whether you take part regularly or just now and then) or even from those people who don't write but submit prompts and/or read the stories is whether or not you wish it to continue and if so how many promptathons you want per year. Maybe four is too many. Hence this poll - I'd really appreciate it if you would take a minute to tick a few boxes to let me know how you feel.
Poll Older Not Dead
I'll keep the poll open for a fortnight to give people a chance to vote as I know not everyone is on-line every day.
Please feel free to comment should you wish to do so - all comments are screened.
