I took Weedy to the vet's today for her annual checkup. I also voiced concern as I had noticed her having some stiffness in her back legs after our daily walks, so I wanted to have some x-rays done

Poor Weedy! Shepherds often have dysplasia problems -- it's a breed commonality. Some glucosamine will help. I also give Bon-Bon a baby aspirin when she needs it for pain. Ask your vet.
I wonder if heat therapy would help at all - it does for humans, anyway. Tho I don't know if Reid would appreciate a hot whirlpool bath...maybe a heating pad?
My Jenny cat is 13, not showing a lot of signs of stiffness, but I give her kitty-massages on a fairly regular basis, so she'll be used to them when she does get stiff. Maybe your vet can show you some therapeutic massage techniques for dogs. Good luck to both of you!
