Lately I've had an unquenchable thirst for good books =) But my list of books to read is getting shorter. Any book suggestions? Recommendations? Any genre is fine - but history is a fav :)
I just finished 'Afternoons with Emily'...it starts when a girl befriends Emily Dickinson. I REALLY enjoyed it. I bought 'Marrying Mozart' yesterday but haven't started it yet. Good luck and I'll come back and see what others picked!! Have a lovely weekend! Lindy
Have you read any of the Karen Kingsbury books or Beverly Lewis books? they are fantastic writers! I've gotten my mom reading them and now she is always with a book!
No, actually I haven't. Several people have recommended the Beverly Lewis books, so they must be good :) Besides, I've always been interested in the Amish way of life, AND I live near Amish country! It's really sad I guess that I haven't read them before ;-)
You dropt me a comment and I decided to return the favour when I saw this post! ;-)
I second the Beverly Lewis idea, but I've heard that some of them have rather "mature" themes. I read The Sanctuary, and the postcard one, as well as the trio with the redheaded heroine named Katie, but sadly I cannot recall the titles at the moment! Other Christian fictions that I like are The Russians series by Judith Pella and Michael Phillips, their Corrie Bell Hollister books (which deals with the California Gold Rush as well as the Civil War) and also Lorraine Snelling's Daughters of Twin Oaks series, about sisters from a Kentuckian Thoroughbred farm torn apart by the Civil War.
Have you read North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell? I just finished it! :-D
You're welcome! And I thought you might have, since I noticed your green icon and the Mr. Thornton North one. ;-) I just finished the book, and I thought it was very good. I'm waiting now for Netflix to ship me my movies!!! :-D
I'm sure you won't be dissappointed with the first half of W&D :) The actress who plays Molly seems to fit the role so perfectly. Yes, it really is a shame that Gaskell died before it was the novel was completed. She left some beautiful, timeless literature behind her though!
