Another Quality Muse Box

Feb 06, 2011 20:45

So, I've been seeing a lot of complaining about SWS lately and the general feeling that 'why isn't there another good muse box out there?'

First off, let me get this clear.  This is in NO WAY a SWS bash or even a bash against the maintainers.  They have a very large community where all walks of muses are welcome and is very successful with other ( Read more... )

I adore SWS to death.

That is all.

There are a lot of poeple that do. I do, myself. I post there more than I probably should. This is just addressing those who want something fresh and new because I've seen a lot of poeple who do. It's just a thought in my head right now, nothing real unless there is interest in it.

Maybe have little fandom categories? I dunno. Organized events?

Without having fandoms is key, I think.

Thanks, though, for the feedback.

I'm too tired tonight to come up with anything constructive, but it is nice to have somewhere where you can post ridiculous (or at least not terribly important) things and just chat with other characters. Sometimes the word-counting can be a little tedious, but it also gives it structure.

If you do start something up, I'd probably join.

When you do get the energy, let me know what you're thinking. And don't forget, let your friends know!

I'll try to put some thought into it.

I have noticed, on SWS, at least, that OCs tend to get ignored a lot, even if they're not Sue-ish fandom OCs. I'm not sure what could be done to change that, though.

Maybe a place for OC people to mingle then?

It's just a thought, probably nothing will come of it, but it's a thought, right?

I think SixWords is great, personally. I've met so many awesome roleplayers there. The point of the whole thing is for everyone to be welcome. Okay, sure, some people suck and some muses are terrible, but it's not the end of the world if they're there. Don't respond to them if they're bad.

I don't know how you could make a better community that has the same sort of set up, a set word limit open to everyone. How would you do an application process to check to see if people are good? You could do a "post whatever you want" comm, but those don't seem to get as much attention.

I feel what people really want is the mods to start cracking down on things, which also always gets a negative response.

I know, it's kind of immature, right. People complaining about SWS when the mods aren't cracking down and then complaining when they do. Meh.

People need to be more mature and realize the internet isn't everything which is a lot harder to fix than coming up with a new SWS.

Hmmmmm. I'm a big fan of SWS for a variety of reasons, mostly that there isn't some huge application process and you can pick up or drop a character whenever. The word limit is a little annoying, but I think that a word limit is a good idea--but sometimes I feel like I could do something more interesting even if I had 20 words total. Establish continuity can be a little difficult. IDK. This is just rambling.

Rambling is good. And I agree, the word limit is a hassle, especially if you just want one more word, you know? And I realize making a comm as successful as SWS is unrealistic, but it'd be another option at least.

Yeah, we're obvi not going to replace SWS or anything, but too many of the alternative comms that open up are too specific or inflexible to really appeal to a wide range of people.

Yea, that's the problem, it's either too prompty or complicated but on the same hand SWS limits you.

I've been on sws for a few years now and it's about the same actually. Maybe a little more active with a wider variety of muns back then but it was the new and trendy RPG. It's still pretty active but one gets the impression that it's a lot of the same people posting. Anyone with a real passion for writing eventually gravitated back to the more structured RPs only occasionally popping into sws if they wanted something fast and dirty. At least most of the people I know. I'm sure it varies between groups.

It's nice to hear that from someone who's been around for a time. I keep seeing people post things (of course under the mask of anon) about his SWS was better a year ago, two years ago, but they never give any details on how or why. Which, of course, leads me to think that perhaps their experiences were just better then. I really can't begin to wrap my brain around how an open, pretty much unmoderated community wherein people post with only six little words could've change greatly. (Does that make any sense at all ( ... )

God, when did I first join up? I think it was about 4 years ago now. Wow. I was something of a newb back then with only a year of online RP experience and one comm to my credit. I was so nervous about joining too. I had one character, Isabel Evans from Roswell, and I was still trying to adjust. Most of my RP experience back then was from table top. SO different. I just kept wanting to pull out dice. I still do whenever baby plots are discussed or just a lot of flagrant unprotected sex. I'm a big fan of consequences 'cause I'm evil like that.

Anyway, back to sws. I can't deny that I've met a lot of really great people and written some incredible stories thanks to the pitt. Though I agree with you on the whole tags thing. I'm a sucker for tags too.
