Today we as a country officially celebrate murder, death, torture, slavery, genocide, crass ethnocentricism, and the glorification of an utterly worthless individual, even by the standards of his own time. Actually, I'm very happy about the schools not officially recognizing it as a holiday. It means that to them it's not really a holiday. Of course, I'd rather the schools recognized it and the banks and government offices were open instead, but hey, whatcanyoudo?

Our history teacher petitions against it every year, so instead we celebrate "Stupid Dead White Male" day.

Any self-respecting history teacher worth his title should be against Columbus Day by default, I would think.
