Well there is the this usual spectrum of dislikable qualities in some politicians in every country: incompetent, corrupt, divisive.

But mass murderers and their leaders are the worst. I dont know if you have seen this:

Hadn't seen that... Whats even more shocking is the banning of these news channels in Gujarat. I'm glad US denied visa to him. Only if he can be brought to justice in India :(

I was aghast when I saw the videos & read the reports..

but the irony as a news channel puts it is that the more this report is publicised in the media - the higher will be the victory margin for Mr. Modi in the elections.

I would love to believe that the elections are sabotaged - else if the people of gujrat actually vote for a leader like that - ... a lot of what I believe in would stop holding true ..

I was having this conversation with chauhan & his view (being a gujju) was that a lot has happened in gujrat that must have led to this kind of a carnage...

Whatever is shown (if it is true) is half truth. If Tehelka was so hell bent upon bringing out the truth, then why not start with Godhra incident. As everybody knows, what happened in Gujrat was after effect of Godhra incident, then why this investigation was not started from Godhra?
I am not trying to say what happened is right... but bring out the whole story.

Even if one assumes the worst about Tehelka's motives in releasing the footage, it still does'nt take anything away from its content.

Well the point of this investigation, atleast as I see it, is not to expose hatred and viciousness. It follows directly from the fact that have so many die in Godhra and in the aftermath that there must be a lot of hatred going around. For me personally that is not the point of story (although it is a distressing reminder).

The point of the story is that the police, the judiciary and the state have been subverted to help and shelter these haters. That is the disturbing part. AFAIK that was not true in Godhra. If there is an expose to be had about how Godhra attackers were encouraged and sheltered by people we have given civilian responsibilities then it is a half truth otherwise not.

Basically Tehelka's story for me (and sure it could be a different story for you) is about exposing those pretending to do their job NOT about the hatred on the ground.
