Some thoughts on Texas Hold 'Em

BO and I were discussing the game we'd just both lost on Saturday night during the cab ride to Teasers. We thought that for a $10 buy-in, maybe 50 chips should have been enough. The game could be finished more quickly that way, and another could get under way ASAP. For a $20 buy-in, 100 chips would be better so that you don't lose your money too ( Read more... )

I actually recently wrote up a set of "house rules" for games from now on.

I think you are right about the chip thing and that we should start playing that way.

Your way may definetly spread out the winning and losing which would be a good idea. It sucks to lose 5 times in a row ( I KNOW ).

neverthless I may feel kinda bad if I "lose" the game by 5 chips if I am in second place.

I'll have to think about that one and decide if I think its a good idea. it aint bad...maybe a time limit? within 30 minutes of being the last two players the chips are counted?

How about, 15 minutes or 5 hands, whichever is less? We don't want to be waiting around for too long before the next game.

"D'oh, only 5 more chips and I would have been the winner!"
That's likely to come up too, but I think if it's that close, someone would have gone All In, just to clinch the big win!

50 chips for $10 game
100 for $20 game

Those rules sound reasonable. I don't like a rule stating the last two guys HAVE to split the pot. If it gets down to me and Everret... unless I'm feeling particularly unlucky... I want to nail him for every chip he has in front of him.

I think it should be up to the last two players to decide if they would like to split it, or play until one guy is out. We can just double the blinds every 15 minutes.

Hey Mr.Poker afficiendo...:

I'd never realized how popular the sport (if you can call it that) of poker is really taking off until my brother in law pointed it out. Apparantly it's super-dooper huge in Calgary, they set up this site:

http://pokernightincanada.org

So anyways, my brother wants to me send the word out to all the poker players I know, so they can set up "satelite" games out here for bigger pots (pot gets up to 16k on some games..
Check the shit out if you're interested...There, I said it :p
