I often run into British characters saying things they never would but Americans would. But, then, I've been exposed to that all my life, so it doesn't phase me.

Tell you what does bug me, though - that English spelling gets marked up as wrong in LJ and other web based fora, where American English spelling never does. It doesn't upset me, just irritates.

My outside answer is sympathetic. I have to confess, though, that when people complain that the internet scheme favors US institutions my inside answer is "You could make one of your own and let the rest of the world piggyback on it, then."

ISTR him soliciting such corrections (from hardback readers) while one of his paperback editions was going through the production process. Have a look around his blog.
