To all those who don't get why i do what i do

Tonight I worked. Yes, it ate up my Saturday night, but I made some significant money and I had a blast, so big deal. Besides, I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night than floating in an open air basket 2500 feet above downtown Winnipeg.

Winnipeg's mature urban forest and wonderful architecture (in places, almost all in the 'inner city') are two of Winnipeg's best features. Unfortunately, they are rarely celebrated by the citizenry as a whole, and I would venture a reasonably educated guess that those who truly DO celebrate and enjoy those features are indeed those who see the greater ills that have afflicted this city and are not afraid to speak their minds. They DO have an idea. The respect for the city is there, and it is a true citizen's duty to strive to better their living place. The past fifty years have not been kind to Winnipeg - the destruction of countless architectural gems, the rapid suburbanization that has left the inner city dull and dead in many places and a city unable to maintain the infrastructure that already exists, the dominance of a urban soul-sucking car culture, and thus the exodus of many of the city's bright young minds - and those who do complain and lament about the lack of a real continued urbanity know what this city could be (and once ( ... )
