Monday night I watched the pilot episode of the new series on FX, The Riches, starring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard as the heads of a modern-day southern-gypsy family. Eddie's a much better actor than I expected judging from his standup (Do spiders make gravy?) and Shadow of the Vampire (to give him credit he was playing a hack actor).

Jeezy Creezy, what on Earth is that?

I saw ads for that show and was a bit wary-- I'm not too fond of Minnie Driver (she seems to think she's much cuter than she is, but "Return to Me" kicks ass nonetheless), and the ads only talked about how awesome Izzard is but said nothing about the show itself. It's like when you pick up a novel and instead of a summary on the back it just has edge-to-edge details of how much critics love it.

In sum: Should I download the episode?

Yeah! I thought it was promising for a pilot, unique story and all.

I don't think it's possible to read the heading of this without imitating the James Mason thing.
