So I'm sitting here in bed at like 1am, just finished reading a book (Beloved by Toni Morrison), as i've gotten into the habit of trying to read a little every day since about a month and change ago.... i have my music on. I sit here writing because I know I cannot sleep. The heavy bass from some kind of music or machine mixed with the high ( Read more... )

Hmmm...I can't really speak on a study abroad experience since mine has yet to happen. But...it's hard to make friends in a different country. Especially girls. I was really conscious of this when my family spent every summer in Spain. When I was little it was alright because I'd spend all day riding my bike with the kids across the street but as I got older and more self aware and self conscious, it became harder. My last summer there, at age 12, was really lonely. I love Spain so much but I'm glad we stopped going there when we did because it wasn't working for me at that age.

Anyway...I'm glad that you can look at your experience of the actual country in a positive light. And you're going to have an awesome senior year at Wesleyan!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt a bit disconnected here at York. I think I'll stay friendly with some of my housemates by email and such, but I can't say I enjoyed the university experience here so much. I hated what I was studying, so that was disappointing because I came in with such high expectations for the academics. I just felt like I didn't have things to do, there was little sense of urgency aside from the last few weeks.

Either way, it is almost over and there are several things I'll miss about being here, but the university and academic stuff will not be one of them. Have a safe trip back.

yeah, i hear you on the academics. i felt the same way, and it's ridiculous because 1 york course is worth 1.33 wesleyan courses, and it's less work but worth more? and it's entirely subjective too. i have one assessment i'm so upset at the professor that i'm writing to the music department about it and i'm also going to try to get it re-graded back home.

i do agree there is SO much to miss about this place. uni and work is definitely not in the list. either way, you too have a safe trip back as you're pretty much on your way! take care
