Why can't people read? Why must they knock on your door super late at night just to have a look at your room when you have a sign that says "DO NOT DISTURB. I NEED TO SLEEP." big and in all caps?

I may have snapped at a girl who came by and I kind of feel bad about that, but why couldn't she read my sign?  Why did she have to wake me up?  Also

couldn't you ignore the knock? pretend no one is home? maybe not. and it still disturbed your sleep. stupid.
