This is a very nice opening. It's believable and you've given Hermione some complexity which is very nice to see. I think this sentence -- He laid his head on her shoulder, past caring that he barely knew her, that they never talked except for as long as it took her to lecture him -- is my favorite. It's deftly written and encompasses their relationship perfectly.

I was glad to see a bit of anger rearing its ugly head here. I suspect it was cathartic for him, and it allows your audience to see that there's more going on than meets the eye with Hermione.

Sounds like Hermione had feelings for Fred...“Shut up!” she screamed, shooting to her feet. “Shut up! You talk about it like you know everything, like you’re the only one who feels any pain! Do you think you’re the only one who cared about Fred?! Ginny and your brothers lost their brother too! Your mother and father have lost their son! Harry, Lee, and Angelina have lost their friend! I’ve-” She stopped, chest heaving. They faced each other across the table. His face was very pale and tight.
...or perhaps George, and misses how he was before.

I can understand him not liking the idea of becoming her next 'project'. And him yelling; after all, he can't cry all the time, and that's what he's been doing since Fred's death...
