Suggestions, Anyone?

Jun 20, 2012 00:19

I am currently working on making my own version of the Royal Kingdom Challenge and below is what I have come up with so far. Would someone be willing to read through it and make any suggestions for any changes that should be made? I would be very grateful to anyone who does. :)

Oh! Sorry. :( Usually I am pretty good about remembering.

ahh, this is so cool!
One thing,
"When two sims wed the woman takes the last name and the class rank of the man.
All children take on the class rank of their mother."
Do they take the class rank of the mother that she had BEFORE marriage or after?

Thank you!
Ah, thank you for pointing that out, I will fix it in the rules. :) It is whatever rank their mother is when they are born.

I'm not going to play according to these rules, but you DID give me an idea of a backstory for the RK/BARK. Still, I read through these rules and, while I can't give you much of a constructive criticism, I did notice something.

In 'Starting out' section, first guideline/rule:
"Number of sims in each family may also be randomized or chosen but households are not to exceed the above limit."

Now, as it came off to me is that "household size" may not exceed the said limit, which, in this case, is nowhere to be found. After rereading it, I also noticed this might mean "Number of households is not to exceed the above limit", which makes more sense. If it is the second, just add "the number of" before "households", to make sure people don't get confused.

I just hope I'm not the only one who managed to get confused over this, since it would be quite embarrassing... :)

Thank you so much for pointing that out! I can see why it would be confusing. I read it knowing already what it means but I shouldn't expect others to. :P I will fix that when I get home.
I am glad I inspired you. :) I mostly just made these rules for myself but I thought maybe someone else may want to try them.

I applaud any effort to revive the RKC and make it more up-to-date! This environment is a very interesting take on it. :) I especially like the rules you made for the king topping his career, it adds a nice flavour to the different reigns! (Do you think a king can top several careers during his lifetime and inforce more of these rules? It would be a shame to only use five of your long list.) I might have a little fun suggestion:

10. Slacker: The king LOVES to party and thinks that all his subjects should enjoy this hobby as well. While the king is alive each household must throw at least one party per rotation.

...and naturally, being a Professional Party Guest, the King expects invitations from everyone!

I also have a question. Since the land is so barren and infertile, the producing of crops is an undertaking altogether. I might have missed your discussion of this subject, but I'm wondering how you will handle growing food? Your setting just begs for an inventive ruleset concerning this :)

Thank you for taking the time to review this! You brought up some great points. :)
The king can top as many careers as he can. I imagine with him going to University that this will be quite easy. The restriction will be that he may be close to elder by the time his father dies so he won't be able to do them ALL.

I should add a section about gardening. I think that plants can only be grown inside a greenhouse. They wouldn't survive otherwise.

Thank you again for pointing those things out. :)

Sounds very interesting :) Might it be worth restricting sims to various lots (with a mix of Inge's colour key system and TJ's visitor controller)? I find it difficult imagining royalty going to the same lots as poverty class sims.

I love the idea of rules being enacted depending on the career the King is currently in -- should add in quite a bit of randomness and add in some potentially underused aspects of your game!

Thank you for those links! Those would certainly be helpful because I agree, I don't think royalty and peasants will be visiting the same lots either.

I didn't think that the Royal Kingdom Challenge was going to be very... challenging by itself, especially when I am used to a BaCC. I thought the rules about the king's careers might make it a bit more difficult, hopefully.
