canal villerie was the first supermarket i went into when i moved to new orleans; maybe day two or three. it was the first indication that new orleans was going to be a weird place.
i have not spoken with angie in a while. maybe a year. i know she's in chicago; i think working for a non-profit women's health organization. she spent a few days with me back in 2002 and it was a music consumption overload!
i know daniel had at least two "raves" at your house in 1992. it was basically a bunch of us gathering in your living room to listen to cd compilations with some odd lighting going on. it was pretty funny. i should scan the flyers he and bryan made.
The one where you had to put quarters in to get a shopping cart? That always struck me as extraordinarily odd.
BTW. I'm loving this mp3. I've listened to it twice in it's entirety. It's like listening to a radio station w/o station id or commercials--plus, i never want to change the station.
my dad, being mr. kmart and knowing all about retail, told me at least a dozen times that those shopping carts cost like $800 each. so that whole quarter thing was just a hedge against losing shopping carts.
no lie -- we used to drive around the trashy apartments and projects around the williams blvd kmart once a month after church on sunday looking for kmart shopping carts. we'd pile them into our trunk one at a time and bring them back to the store.
Kinda reminds me of classic mix tapes like "Ali Khoobehi's Wild Kingdom, Volume 7: How to play golf" All that's missing is some SNES music, say from F-Zero or something.
You dont still have that tape do you? And where's my dang AirJam video?
i still have all those tapes... packaging and all.
i thought about putting some snes music megamix on it but didn't think folks would get it. i also wanted to put "la bamba" on it but decided against it because it's kinda gay.
