oh god, okay guys, i've been procrastinating this post for a while because apparently my current way of dealing with big decisions is PRETEND THEY DONT EXIST LALALALA MEANINGLESS

Don't get me wrong, the cadetship sounds amazing. But, you did say working with animals was your plan B. I'd never advise going for plan B when you haven't done your best to get to plan A first. Because who knows where you might end up while striving for plan A, and not knowing is half the fun.
But, 18 years old, first year of uni etc. etc. so I'm definitely not the best person to give advice on potentially life-altering career decisions.
I will say this, just because I know, the designer life is not glamourous for the majority of people in it. Unless you are spectacular (and even then...), you will probably end up in a studio mostly designing and mapping out catalogues. And in most cases, you will have no real freedom as a designer because people have very rigid and hideously designed ideas of what they want. My sister realised this once she actually got into the job, hence why she started her own business (which is not easy either so don't think that that's a great way to go). Completely dissatisfying and demoralising. Also, the pay is quite terrible unless you own a studio.
Not trying to sway you, but these are things for the cons list.
Or what will make you happiest, because that's the most important thing. Not money, not coolness, not gadgets, not fresh air, just the satisfaction of being in that job.
But of course, this is easier said than done so feel free to disregard what I've just said.
