So Caleb is sick again. Which is not unusual, but this time he's started having trouble breathing, so I listened to his lungs and decided there was definitely something wrong there - sounded to me like a late expiratory crackle in his left lung. The doctor agreed (although he thought it was more like a wheeze) and prescribed albuterol from a ( Read more... )

Wow, you teach your kid useful things. Why not teach him nonsense words like "ackie, ackie"? :]

I totally understand you with the singing thing. I thought we had taught Raine the "more" sign, but it turns out she thought it meant "raisens." We've corrected that, though she now is pretty unshakable in her belief that "more" means food--and solid food at that, I've tried nursing her after she gives me the more sign and she's pulled off to repeat the sign. It's neat to be communicating, but it is awkward at times.

How did you correct? Our strategy is to make the correct sign for whatever it is he wants(mommy, daddy, etc), because nursing him every time he made the milk sign just didn't seem to work.

We started signing "grapes" when we gave her raisins, and were persistent about signing "more" when giving her other things. Unfortunately she generally only runs out of and therefore wants "more" of is food, so I'm not sure how long it will take to fine tune our communication. She's signed "more" on the potty and I've tried to respond by leaving her on longer, which just causes her to look at me like I'm an idiot and repeat the sign until she gets frustrated and/or I relent.

Hope he feels better! The shower stories are cute and the insights about signing sound useful :)
