We went to the allergist today. We discovered that Caleb is allergic to peanuts and dust mites (The peanut reaction was impressive!) Nothing I couldn't have figured out myself really. What was exciting is that he is NOT allergic to cats, dogs, wheat, eggs, or soy. He may still have pollen allergies, but he is too young to find out yet. - They ( Read more... )

That is good news from the allergist! Eggs and wheat are no fun to try to avoid.

lol@kuddliphish... wheat's way more fun to avoid than dairy. gluten free beats dairy free any day, though both suck, and doing both sucks too. :-P

I hope the peanut allergy isn't too severe and isn't anaphylactic!

Unfortunately it can be anaphylactic, BUT the allergist gave us some good news. She said that some children with peanut allergies who go without peanuts for a LOOONG time (like 6 years) end up losing their peanut allergy! I'm crossing my fingers

Oh, I know dairy free is no walk in the park--I'm lactose intolerant myself--but at least when I cook at home I have a fairly easy time avoiding dairy. I can live without cheese, and am very glad I don't have to live without bread. ;)

I was pretty sure dairy was okay without question for Caleb, though, so it's nice for them to get the all clear on some other hard to avoid foods.

Dust mites? Aren't they everywhere except nowhere? How does one deal with such a thing?

And oh, peanuts, the stuff of life. How sad. :)
