Illness wrap-up

Well, I took Caleb to the doctor on Wednesday and she decided he had a sinus infection- I'm not convinced, BUT she gave us amoxicillin and after three doses he seemed 100% better, so what are you going to do? Yeah, I thought I read that kids who learn to sign generally speak a little bit later because they don't have quite the same consternation over not being understood. They've got a way to be understood (the signs) so the vocal control isn't quite as high on their priority list, and they spend their mental energy fine tuning the communication they are doing. That's what I recall, from reading about it years ago, anyway.

ooh I love your new userpic! Caleb is soooo cute, and I agree, he doesn't look like a baby anymore. Wow!

I agree about the userpic. He looks so much more grown up than the last time I saw him. Raine doesn't say much either, except for in cat-speak. The same possible da-das and ma-mas that we're not convinced are really distinct from the other babble.

I made a list of all the signs she knows the other day, though, so that I could look up the German for the ones I didn't know off hand, and I was very impressed. It had clearly been a while since I last thought through all the things she could sign.

Only sort of. We do little stuff, like the alphabet. Mostly, though, we got a barnyard animal book in German as a present. That led to the list, because Raine would harrass kuddliphish with it, and she doesn't know any German. So the list started as a cheat sheet so that she could at least sort of read the book to Raine, at least for the really interesting parts like the kitty.
